Baptism

"Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Acts 2-38

Baptism is the central rite through which the faithful enter into communion with Christ's life, death, and resurrection. Baptism washes away sins and welcomes new members into our Catholic family.

Infants can be baptized soon after birth. At the time of Baptism, parents vow to practice their faith and provide a Catholic upbringing for the child.

Adults who have never been baptized take part in RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), and will typically be baptized at the Easter Vigil. The Catholic Church recognizes the Baptism from other Christian denominations who baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Thus, a person can only be baptized once.

Baptisms at the Cathedral are ordinarily celebrated throughout the year during Mass and during the Easter Vigil. Pre-baptismal classes are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. in the Church.  No reservations are necessary.  Attendance is required for parents asking to have a child baptized.  Baptisms are scheduled through this class.
