Lisa Vegors on Maternity Leave...

The great news is that Lisa Vegors is due to have another baby boy on May 6th,
Elijah Hayden Vegors!
After she has Elijah, Lisa will be taking a break as Youth Director from May 6th –August 6th. Courtney Nichols, one of our amazing Core Team members that is graduating from Vanderbilt this May, will be the interim youth director in Lisa's absence. Courtney is taking her summer break to stay in Nashville and serve our youth group and church before she heads off to the Northwest to serve in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps for a year. Courtney would appreciate any help that the teens, parents, or recent graduates could offer while Lisa is away. If you have questions or need to contact Courtney you can reach her via e-mail at:
courtney.p.nichols@vanderbilt.edu or she will be working in Lisa's office here at the Cathedral after she leaves, and the phone number is 615-327-2330 ext 307.

Courtney Nichols Interim Youth Director
Courtney is from Trabuco Canyon, California. She is a 2009 Psychology graduate from Vanderbilt University. Two of the passions that she has discovered during her college career here in Nashville are serving adolescents and the poor. Courtney has served the youth group as a volunteer since she was a sophomore at Vanderbilt. She has also been a leader in the Cathedral “Why Catholic?” study this past year. In the time she has given to our parish she has gained the trust and respect not only from the teens in the program but also from some of the staff here at the Cathedral. We are very lucky to have someone who is so servant-minded and invested in our parish to stay here and serve as the interim Youth Director.

Youth Minister

Lisa Vegors is the Cathedral’s Director for our Catholic Youth Program. Lisa, from Memphis, Tennessee, is a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. She attended Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee on a volleyball scholarship and graduated in May 2002 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Religion. In college, Lisa's activities included Religious Life Council, Phi Mu Executive Council, Student Ambassador, and Peer Counselor. Her awards include Dean's list, Psi Chi National Honor Society, Volleyball All-tournament Team, Annual Sportsmanship Award, and the Lambuth Christian Service Award. She organized campus-wide prayer groups and co-directed Search, a Catholic high school retreat.

Lisa was a Youth Intern at First United Methodist Church in December 2000 to June 2002. During this time, she led weekly bible studies and organized week-long retreats to Florida and later became Youth Director at the church. Lisa lead this group on a mission trip to a Mexican orphanage and to a Christian music festival in Pennsylvania. Before joining the Cathedral, she was a Youth Intern at Brentwood United Methodist Church. There she had experience leading lock-ins, prayer groups, and traveled with them on trips and retreats. She also lead seminars on prayer at Breakthrough, a retreat attended by several churches.

Lisa graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in May 2004 with a Masters in Theological Education. Her emphasis was in Pastoral Care in the Catholic Church. Lisa is married to Josh Vegors.  Lisa is not the only youth ministering the family, her husband Josh is pursuing a certificate at CYMT (Center for Youth Ministry Training) which is in relationship with Duke Divinity School, The Center for Church Leadership at Martin Methodist College, and the Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary while maintaining his position as Youth Director at Nolensville United Methodist church.

Throughout the year, Lisa will update her database and assemble a directory of teens participating in the Youth Program, so your prompt response to this short questionnaire is a must! This will allow the participants and their parents to provide Lisa with information that will help her to design a program which will meet the needs of our teenage parishioners. Please take the time to complete your registration here online. This is an excellent opportunity for our youth to REJOICE & REJOIN.
